India, Bihar, Rajgir

Derived from Rajgriha - ‘Abode of the kings’, Rajgir has witnessed several episodes of Buddha’s life. Here only Lord Buddha preached various sermons, proselytized Emperor Bimbisar at the Griddhakoota - Vulture Hill and meditated many times.

The Jivekarmavan monastery at Rajgir was the favorite residence for Buddha. The teachings of Lord Buddha were penned down at Rajgir and it was also the venue for the first Buddhist Council. Such is the reverie of Rajgir which is now a prime Buddhist Pilgrim spot.

Quotations by Babasaheb

  • My Final Words of Advice to you are Educate, Agitate and Organize; Have Faith In You. With justice on your side I do not see how we can loose our battle. The battle to me is a matter of joy. The battle is in the fullest sense spiritual. There is nothing material or social in it. For ours is a battle not for wealth or for power. It is battle for freedom. It is the battle of reclamation of Human Personality.

You must abolish your slavery yourself. Do not depend for its abolition upon God or a superman. Remember that it is not enough that a people are numerically in the majority. The must be always watchful, strong and self-respecting to attain and maintain success. We must shape our course ourselves and by ourselves.  - Dr. B. R. Ambedkar

  • Religion is for Man ... Man is not for Religion.  - Dr. B. R. Ambedkar

  • Unlike a drop of water loses its identity when it joins the ocean, man does not lose his identity being in the society in which he belongs. Man's life is independent. He is born not for the development of the society alone; but for the development of his self.  - Dr. B. R. Ambedkar

  • Life should be great rather than long.  - Dr. B. R. Ambedkar

  • There can be no gain saying that political power in this country has too long been the monopoly of the few, and the many are not beasts of burden but also beats of prey.  - Dr. B. R. Ambedkar

  • Indians today are governed by two different ideologies. Their political ideal set in the Preamble of the Constitution affirms a life of Liberty, equality and fraternity. Their social ideal embodied in their religion denies them.  - Dr. B. R. Ambedkar

  • Leftists and radical leaders have been giving blind and unquestioning support to the Congress whic admittedly is run by capitalists, landlords, money-lenders and reactionaries, only because the congress calls its activities by the grandiloquent name of "Fight for Freedom."  - Dr. B. R. Ambedkar
